Navy flies into town
WILLENABRINA’S Pat and Kelvin Gouin received a special visit from their son Justin recently, as he flew in on a Navy helicopter.
Mr Gouin said his son had been in the Navy for 18 years and was a chief petty officer and worked as a senior maintenance manager with the helicopters.
“He joined the Navy as an avionic technician and was on the routine flight which took them right over Warracknabeal,” he said.
“As they were passing by on their way from Moira New South Wales they landed to let him call in and say hello.”
“They were on their way to Horsham for the night, before they continued down to the Great Ocean Road, Melbourne and back home.”
“We only see him once or twice a year so we were quite happy at the visit and he was glad to have been given the opportunity by his commanding officer, plus it’s good to see the aircraft in the area.”
Mr Gouin said another Warracknabeal man, Tim Voight, also works in the same squad as Justin, however he couldn’t come on the flight.
“His parents Peter and Shirley still came up to see the helicopter and crew,” he said.
The helicopter was a Seahawk, an anti-submarine helicopter often deployed on Navy ships. Mr Gouin said he and his wife had had the opportunity to fly in a Navy Seahawk helicopter before at a family day, which the Navy often hosts.
