Aged Care facility update
A TIMELINE for Woodbine’s $1 million aged care facility is still up in the air as grant funding applications are yet to be processed.
The planned six room, state-of-the-art facility to be located in Noall-st will meet the needs of younger people with intellectual disabilities, who are experiencing age-related conditions such as dementia, ensuring they receive the best 24-hour care in their retirement before requiring nursing home care.
Woodbine’s chief executive officer Bernie O’Connor said State Government had advised that the application for the Innovative Accomodation Support Initiative met initial requirements and will now advance for further consideration.
This in turn allowed them, this week, to apply to Federal Government for a Supported Accommodation Innovation funding grant for a substantial proportion of the funds required.
“We are making sure we have a funding process in place before stepping in to it, we are waiting on State and Federal Government funding,” he said.
Mr O’Connor said after last nights Woodbine board meeting hosted last night they would have a better strategy about advancing the project in regards to financing and getting the building project underway.
Woodbine was established in 1951 and currently has about 80 clients from across the district.
Woodbine is a non-profit organisation and employs 122 full-time, part-time and casual staff and 45 volunteers, as well as operating five supported businesses within Warracknabeal. It offers a range of services from employment and training recreational services, day programs and permanent and respite accommodation.
