A brand-new weekly newspaper has been launched for Horsham and the broader Wimmera - dedicated to everything in local sport.

The Wimmera Mallee Sport launch edition is 24 action-packed pages featuring not only the big names in footy and netball, but also the players and teams who make up countless other sports, from rowing to shooting, volleyball to bowls.

The first issue features a detailed season preview of the Horsham District Football Netball League and a cover story on athlete Charlie Inkster, making her debut this week at the Australian National Track and Field Championships in Adelaide.

Compiled by dedicated sports reporter Chris Graetz, Wimmera Mallee Sport is the newest newspaper in the Wimmera Mallee News stable - publisher of The Horsham Times, Warracknabeal Herald, Dimboola Banner and Rainbow Argus.

"Our family newspapers have been part of the fabric of the community for 135 years," Wimmera Mallee News managing director Andrew Ward said.

"With Wimmera Mallee Sport we're putting the spotlight on all things sport across our region in a way no one has done before."

Wimmera Mallee Sport is available every Tuesday through local newsagents.
