Lucky escape for couple
AT approximately 11am last Thursday, a trip to Ballarat for a Rainbow couple came to an abrupt end when their Hyundai Tucson collided with the Kelsall Street level crossing in Warracknabeal.
The impact of the collision took out a heavy steel post mounted in four feet of concrete and finished up under the vehicle that came to rest against railway line infrastructure parallel to Kelsall Street and avoided blocking the rail-line or the street.
The damage to the vehicle was extensive and is considered a potential write-off.
Passersby and nearby residents rushed to console and aid the couple until emergency services arrived on the scene.
The male driver is understood to have suffered a medical incident and was to be transferred to hospital for observation.
His wife was apparently uninjured in the collision but was distressed following the incident.
