Lace up your runners for Active April

VICTORIANS of every age and ability are being encouraged to lace up their runners and follow in the footsteps of their heroes to boost their health and fitness in the 2020 Premier’s Active April challenge.

Last year, a record 130,211 Victorians participated in Active April, with 1761 Victorian schools and 854 Victorian workplaces registered as teams and exercising daily by walking to school, riding to work or visiting the gym during their lunch break.

Registration for Premier’s Active April is free and everyone who signs up will receive 10 free YMCA visit passes and a host of freebies and incentives to help them “find their gold” in their local area.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green announced at Princes Park that registrations were officially open and encouraged all Victorians to commit to 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green said, “last year we had record participation levels and in 2020 we want to take it to a whole new level.”

“Premier’s Active April provides a great opportunity to discover new hobbies and participate in daily movement, and that can simply be making the most of your break time at work or riding a bike with the family at the local park.”

“I encourage all Victorians to move more this April and get involved no matter your age, ability or fitness level.”

Paralympian Jessica Gallagher said, “I have come on board with Premier’s Active April for the third year running because it’s a fantastic campaign that can make a real difference to people’s health and happiness.”

“Getting active doesn’t have to mean training like an elite athlete – it could be as simple as taking your dog for a walk.”

A team of Premier’s Active April ambassadors has been assembled to inspire people including footballers Bachar Houli (Richmond) and Emma Kearney (North Melbourne), Paralympian Jessica

Gallagher, Olympic middle-distance runner Peter Bol, University professor Amanda Benson and Tom and Captain from Dog Walking Adventures.

Participants can track daily activity straight from Fitbit devices to the Premier’s Active April website and app. Alternatively, participants can manually log activity.

Participants this year will also have access to the ‘Get Active Workouts’ video series through the app, which features 30 different 10-minute workout ideas to inspire and motivate participants.
