A spokesperson from the Yarriambiack Shire Council said that Yarriambiack Creek in Warracknabeal and Lake Marma in Murtoa still contain elevated levels of blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria.

While the water may look unaffected, residents should avoid direct contact with this water.

Warning signs have been placed in recreational areas of the lake and creek.

Similarly, authorities in the West Wimmera Shire Council warned recreational water users to avoid direct contact with Lake Wallace in Edenhope.

Visitors can still enjoy bushwalking and sightseeing but should stay out of the water.

Officials have placed warning signs around the lake and will remove them once algae levels drop.

They urge people not to use the water for drinking, cooking, or washing, as boiling does not make it safe.

Anyone who experiences skin irritation, nausea, or other symptoms after contact should seek medical help immediately.

Pet owners must keep animals away from the water.

Blue-green algae blooms spread quickly in warm weather and may discolour the water or create a musty smell.
