Bushfire-affected farmer appreciates community support
A local farmer has expressed deep gratitude to his community for their support following the devastating Grampians bushfires that began on December 17, 2024.

Lynden Brewis, who owns a sheep and cropping farm in Willaura, faced significant losses during the fire. He suffered the destruction of 3,000 acres of farmland, 60 kilometers of fencing, and the loss of 500 lambs.
Despite the devastating impact, he highlighted the community’s efforts in providing crucial aid during the crisis.
“We had a lot of community support throughout these times. People dropped off food and provided a generator when we were without power for three days,” he said.
“The neighbourhood, CFA, and private units did a phenomenal job.
“It was amazing how volunteers and all contained the fire, especially on Boxing Day.”
Mr Brewis noted that BlazeAid volunteers are still in the area, and he is still waiting for the cleanup to be done.
The farmer also expressed appreciation for those outside the immediate area who contributed to the recovery effort.
“I am very thankful to people from other districts who provided few loads of hay through friends of friends,” he said.
Looking ahead, Mr Brewis expressed hope for improved bushfire management in the Grampians region to mitigate the risk for future fire seasons.
