Player-coach Andy Devereaux led the home side with 10 goals as they scored 21.7 (133) to Taylors Lake’s 7.13 (55).

Speaking on his 10 goals, Devereaux was quick to credit the good work of his teammates.

“I think the most I’ve kicked previously was four goals in the under 12s,” Devereaux said.

“It was just one of those games where it seemed like the footy found me and I managed to finish off everyone’s hard work, which was nice.”

Devereaux got the Kees flying with the opening two goals of the game.

Taylors Lake fought back, including two goals from Justin Beugelaar, as Kalkee went into the first break up 27-21.

Dominating the midfield battle, Kalkee controlled the contest in the second quarter, and along with some accurate goalkicking they extended their lead to 69-29 at half-time.

A spirited third quarter from the Lakers got them opportunities up forward, but Kalkee still led 82-46 at the final break.

But the Kees put an exclamation point on their win, kicking eight final-quarter goals, including four from Devereaux.

Having previously said that anything but a win would be disappointing, Devereaux said he was pleased with one of the team’s best performances this year.

“Definitely a complete performance,” Devereaux said.

“I think we had a pretty good game against Edenhope the week before, but I think yesterday’s performance was a little bit better.

“We didn't have as much of a lapse, which was good, and we were able to finish off the four quarters really nicely."

For Taylors Lake, coach Justin Beugelaar led the way with three goals, while Kalkee’s Ben Lawson managed to boot four majors.

Matt Nield was named Kalkee’s best player, while Logan Miller and Billy Finnigan were the best for Taylors Lake.

In an all-team performance, Devereaux credited some of the team’s young stars.

“Patty (Patrick) Mills, he’s just a workhorse,” Devereaux said.

“Issie (Isaiah) Adams, off the back flank, he’s just got more and more confidence the more he has played.

“Aiden Richardson, he’s a really young, up-and-coming forward and just has that ability to get marks when you really need them.”

Kalkee’s win has lifted them to seventh on the ladder as they face a round 12 bye.
