Dimboola might not have got off to the best start in their Round Three Wimmera Football Netball League clash against the Horsham Saints on Saturday, but they still banked the four points.

The home side, in Horsham, led by 10 points at the end of the first quarter, but Dimboola had a narrow lead at half time and an eight-point lead heading into the final quarter before running out 18-point winners.

Final scores were Horsham Saints 8.13 61 defeated by Dimboola 12.7 79.

Andrew Moore and Dylan Landt were impressive for the winners, while for the losing side, Max Bryan and Mitch Martin were the better performers.

Jackson Calder was the leading goal scorer on the day for Dimboola, while Martin booted three majors for the Saints.

Heading into the match, coach of Dimboola, Dean Toet said his side were looking to "ramp it up" another level in their game against the Saints on Satuday.

And after the clash, and on reflection of the result, he said despite a slow start, his side recovered and were able to refocus to get the win.

"We were a bit lackluster in the first quarter, I think we thought it was just going to happen, and they (the Saints) did to us what we were planning to do to them," Toet said.

"That caught us out a bit."

Toet said he addressed his side about their desire for the ball at the end of the first quarter, and their efforts improved from then on.

"The hunt for the footy, we didn't want it and we were second to the footy in the first quarter," Toet said.

"They outplayed us in contested footy and physicality and we mentioned we need to work harder on that and we wanted everyone to be hunting the footy, and hunting it with a purpose."

In the final quarter Toet said the game opened up, and his side were able to play a bit more how they like to play.

"We got the ball quickly into the forward line, which helped and that played into Jackson Calder taking some good marks in the last quarter and kicking goals as well, which helps," he said.
