Four to play Fiona as Shrek rehearsals under way

Meet Fiona, Fiona.. and Fiona! After weeks of searching, Horsham Arts Council has finally selected the three cast members to play Fiona in its May 2024 production of Shrek The Musical.

Joining the auditions were (back): Emmy Isbel, Mekah Miller, Laila Combe, Anora Corbett; (middle) Ella Wheeler, Indi Finn, Harlow Janetzki, Camille Arthur; (front) Emily Lesser and Alyce Hoye.

With laws in place limiting how long a child can work, HAC also was required to find a fourth Fiona to join the cast of Shrek as its alternative and understudy for Little Fiona.

Indi Finn will take on that responsibility, and perform in two of the shows.

The rehearsals saw the cast come together for the first time since November, when they gathered for a fun evening of character development games and activities, to help them dive a little more into their characters, the backstories behind them and how this would help them portray the stories of their characters on stage.

Vocal directors Faye Johns and Maddi Ostapiw have already started teaching "I’m a Believer", filling the room with fun and joy.

While many people see Shrek as a children’s show, at its heart is a moving story about acceptance and friendship, addressing appearance, speech, stigma and gender.

HAC is not just a place for performers to be creative but a chance for many talents and skills to come together to create art and magic.

HAC has partnered with the charity Dolly’s Dream for the season of Shrek, raising funds to continue the fight against youth suicide from bullying.

A fundraiser will be held on March 15 at Horsham RSL, including triva, music bingo and a silent auction. Families and children are welcome.

Tickets are $30 each, and available by phoning the club on 5382 5222.

HAC also welcomed a couple of new faces this year in Jordan Fedkey and Will Lynch.

Mr Fedkey is both head of props and dragon puppet designer.

He has a background in cosplay creations and is currently creating the knights' costumes from foam.

More than 70 pieces will be traced, cut and glued together to create the metal medieval look.

Mr Lynch, as the head of set construction, brings a wealth of knowledge from the building trade and likes to create bespoke wooden pieces.
