As part of Horsham Rural City Council’s regular maintenance program, the team has removed old and unhealthy plants, refreshed mulch, repaired irrigation systems and added hardy perennials to keep the gardens thriving year-round.

HRCC acting director of Infrastructure Luke Mitton said the project is more than just about appearance.

“We’re giving the garden beds a proper refresh so they not only look great now, but also stay healthy and colourful well into the future, which helps make our public spaces more enjoyable for everyone,” he said.

"A lot of the older plants had simply run their course, so we’re replacing them with new ones that are better suited to the space and the seasons, making sure everything looks fresh and inviting all year round.”

In the heart of city, workers have started planting winter annuals in the CBD roundabouts to brighten up the streetscape during the colder months.

Many ageing plants in surrounding garden beds are also being replaced with fresh selections to support a broader rejuvenation effort.

The newly rejuvenated garden beds are allowing locals and visitors to sit, chat or enjoy food during their work breaks and have also added colour to the CBD.

The Parks and Gardens team will continue maintenance and planting works across the CBD and surrounding areas in the weeks ahead.
