Horsham Saints notch up another win
After a win in round seven of the Wimmera Football Netball League, the Ben Knott led Horsham Saints are sitting in third on the ladder for the league.
Final scores were Horsham Saints 12.7 (79) to Minyip Murtoa 10.6 (66).
Coach of the Saints, Knott, said he was happy with the win, especially because the opposition came at them hard in the last quarter.
"It was good to grit it out," he reflected.
Knott's side got off to a brilliant start, up by 19 points at the end of the first quarter.
"We matched them at the contest, which is certainly a strength of theirs," Knott said.
"Our running game worked for us, too, which was pleasing."
At half-time, the Burras were down by 13 points, and this deficit was extended to 27 points heading into the final quarter.
"They have some good players who really stepped up late," Knot said.
"We also had some bodies that were sore and were down to only one or two on the bench and they came hard.
"They kicked the first four goals in 10 or 12 minutes, and we held on for the rest of the quarter, which was good because I was a bit worried."
With the ball spending a lot of time in the Burras' forward 50, Knott said it was pleasing his side scrapped it out.
"The heart rate definitely went up," he laughed.
Better players for the Horsham side were Mitch Martin, Keegan Mellington and Codi Kenny, while Minyip Murtoa was led by Joseph Clancy, Lachlan Johns and Luke Fisher.
For the Burras, Fisher booted three majors, while Jack Henry was the main goal scorer for the Saints, with four goals.
Knott acknowledged some of the better players, including Kenny.
"He has probably the best game he has had for the club," he said.
"He's in a new role in the forward line, and he is relishing it.
"Generally, Codi had played down back for us, and this year, we thought he was a bit stagnant back there.
"We needed a target in the forward line, being a smaller team, and thought why not give him a go, and he's relished it."
