Mayor Ron Ismay said the outcomes delivered this year were made possible by the dedication of Council staff and the strong volunteer base across the shire.

Thanking council employees, Cr Ismay acknowledged the work of staff across all areas of the organisation.

“Council wouldn’t be able to achieve the outcomes that we do without its employees, from the outdoor crew who maintain our parks and gardens to the people working behind the scenes,” he said.

He also highlighted the vital contribution of volunteers who support community assets and help deliver local events such as markets and shows.

“We are incredibly lucky to live and work in an area with as many volunteers as we do, thank you to all who volunteer their time,” he said.

Cr Ismay said the council had delivered and progressed some major projects during 2025, many of which spanned several years, including the Wimmera River Discovery Trail.

He acknowledged the difficulties faced by the community during the year, particularly the Little Desert bushfires in early 2025 and the introduction of the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund (ESVF), which has strongly affected the shire’s farming-focused community, including farmers who also volunteer with the CFA.

Looking ahead to 2026, Cr Ismay said advocacy against the ESVF would remain a key focus.

“Advocating against the ESVF will continue to be a priority moving into 2026,” he said.

He said the council would continue meeting with Members of Parliament to advocate for funding and support where it is needed most.

Several projects and community events are planned for the coming year, including the official opening of the Llew Schilling Silo at Rainbow, with the date yet to be confirmed.

Cr Ismay and chief executive Monica Revell wished residents a safe holiday season, particularly those travelling, and extended their best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
