Men's Shed welcomes new members at open day
The Rainbow Men’s Community Shed hosted a successful BBQ Open Day on Thursday, May 8, welcoming locals to explore the shed, enjoy a free lunch, and learn about upcoming community projects.

A two-hour event included a shed tour, a sizzling sausage sizzle provided by the Neighbourhood House, and a $250 Home Hardware voucher prize draw.
Two new members joined on the day, boosting the group’s active numbers.
Shed team leader Bernard Young said the group had been busy building its presence and capabilities in the community.
“We work as a program under the Neighbourhood House,” he said.
“They manage the whole site and provide us with insurance coverage and all those things we couldn’t do ourselves.
“With the new members, we can start doing more projects.”
The group’s popular community projects include recycled Christmas trees made from pallets, which they plan to continue producing this year.
“Last year we started making Christmas trees out of pallets and we’re going to keep doing that,” he said.
“So we’ve got one in there that’s finished and we just made two more today. Got to paint them yet,” he said.
Mr Young encouraged the broader community to reach out if they have project ideas or need support.
“We welcome the community to come to us with things they would like us to do,” he said.
“We can also do things for people privately, fee-for-service.
“We are just getting together and welcoming new people.”
The Rainbow Men’s Shed currently meets every Thursday at 9.30am, with an average of four to five members attending each week.
It provides a space for members to connect, learn, and contribute through hands-on projects that support local needs.
