Oh-so-close start for Kalkee

Kalkee has signalled that it's a side to watch in 2025, finishing just a solitary goal behind Laharum in A grade netball in Saturday afternoon's season opener.

With goal shooter Jarrah Martin scoring a game-high 30, assisted by goal attack Jenna Bywaters with 13, Kalkee gave the Demons a run for their money in a see-sawing encounter.

Kalkee led by a single goal at quarter-time, trailed by one at the midway mark and was two goals up at the final break.

The Demons had gone into the match-up confident but wary, according to coach Rebecca McIntyre, who in the lead-up described her side as having a target on its back.

For Laharum, Maddison Iredell shot 25 and Courtney Taylor added 16 in the first three quarters before switching to goal keeper for the final term.

When it counted most, Jemma Thomas stood tall for the Demons, adding three valuable goals in the closing quarter after rotating through goal keeper, wing defence and centre earlier in the day.

Kalkee's best included Martin and wing defence Abbey Williams.
