Artists in the frame at Murtoa
THE Murtoa and District Historical Society is welcoming artists to participate in Murtoa's Big Weekend Art Exhibition and Sale.

THE Murtoa and District Historical Society is welcoming artists to participate in Murtoa's Big Weekend Art Exhibition and Sale.
The Art Exhibition and Sale, held on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2, will take place at Murtoa's Mechanics Hall from 10am to 4pm and is a fundraising event for the Murtoa and District Historical Society.
"To date, we have at least 160 entries," Murtoa District Historical Society Secretary Sue Dollin said.
"Mostly they are paintings of various mediums and techniques, large and small, and there are also textile art pieces and some sculptures.
"There is a themed judged section - 'Botanical Beauties' - with a prize of $250 available. The remaining artworks will be judged by a best of show vote from the public, which is another prize of $250."
A 20 per cent commission will apply for all artwork sold and will be included in the sale price.
Art that is not available for sale can still be entered and displayed.
Devonshire Tea and raffle prizes for Patchwork Quilts will also be available on the day.
To commemorate the special 150th anniversary of Murtoa, a silent auction will be held for a particularly prized painting.
"Peter Hill, who is an outstanding painter, has donated his painting of the Murtoa Railway," Ms Dollin said.
"It's a perfect subject for the 150th celebrations in Murtoa over the Murtoa Big Weekend."
