Police are to conduct a review of the search for missing grandmother Colleen South after a body was found at Bunguluke, about 15km east of Wycheproof, on Monday afternoon.
While the body was not yet formally identified, a family member released a statement on social media confirming they believed the body was Ms South’s.
"We are heartbroken and in shock,” they wrote on the Facebook page 'Bring Colleen South Home'.
“Colleen's body has unfortunately been located in a paddock tonight, five kilometres from where her car was found," a family member said.
"We don't have any answers on what has happened yet, but we will update you all once we do.
"We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for your endless support, calls and messages for the past five weeks. We are so grateful."
Ms South, aged 58, from Adelaide, has been missing since June 30.
Her car was found abandoned on the isolated Charlton-Swanhill Road, 15 kilometres outside of Wycheproof, on July 3, with items believed to belong to Ms South located a short distance from the car.
A farmer discovered the body off the Swan Hill-Charlton Road, south of Mackies Road, just before 4pm on Monday.
A police spokesperson said it was "highly probable" the body was Ms South's.
"It's highly likely that the body that was found east of Wycheproof is that of Colleen South but it's yet to be formally identified and we are waiting for DNA analysis to confirm that," they said.
He said police would prepare a report for the coroner, which would include a review into the search process.
