There are two categories, one for primary students and one for secondary students.

Soil is the most biodiverse ecosystem on the planet. It’s crowded with life down there!
You might have thought the Great Barrier Reef was a diverse ecosystem, but if you could go soil snorkelling, you’d be amazed at what you could see.
Just one teaspoon of topsoil can contain up to 6 billion microorganisms. That’s more than the population of humans on Earth, all in one teaspoon!
This invisible world under our feet is working together to keep our plants and animals, landscapes and water supplies clean and healthy.
Soil Week Australia is running a competition on healthy soil. This competition is free to enter.
There are two categories, one for primary students and one for secondary students. For primary schools, the winning entrant will receive $1000 and the runner up will receive $500. For secondary students, the winning student will receive a $500 JB Hi-Fi voucher and $1000 to their school.
Simply come up with a compelling way to explore the wonderful world of soil and highlight why it’s so important.
This is an opportunity for schools and students to be creative. Entries can be in any digital format.
This might mean producing a video, making a magazine, drawing a picture, recording a speech, writing a play, painting a mural, designing a video game, writing a book review, or painting a mural.
For schools and students in the Wimmera district there is a special category with prizes sponsored by the Wimmera CMA.
The Soil Week Australia schools competition is generously sponsored by retired Wimmera farmer Calvin Muller.
Calvin grew up and has farmed in Warracknabeal all his life. He believes it’s the young people who are an important part of the future of our lands and agriculture.
