UNFORTUNATE weather and rain couldn't keep the Warracknabeal community from celebrating the return of their annual Show.

Show organisers, the Warracknabeal Agricultural and Pastoral Society, worked tirelessly until Thursday morning, October 6, to deliver their promise of a fantastic and fun-filled show despite some last-minute setbacks.

The horse events were cancelled a week before the Show due to concern over horse and rider safety given the muddy and soft grounds, and the Showman's Guild withdrew all but one ride, the Children's Mushroom Ferris Wheel, due to similar concerns.

"We could focus on the negatives, but then we would forget the positives," Agricultural and Society president Cameron Drage said.

"It is still an exciting day. The weather's not ideal, obviously, but the community spirit has been fantastic.

"The Show committee had an emergency meeting, 'do we go ahead with this or not?', but we had to for the community because too many people have put in too much effort and time (to cancel due to weather).

"I'm really happy with the people that have turned up to support the Show and reconnect with their community."

Despite the unfortunate weather, there was still plenty to do and see at the Show.

Ever-popular with adults and children alike was the Animal Nursey which featured baby chickens, a baby cow, lambs, a pony named Ebony and Joe, the Clydesdale-cross horse.

Coffee, baked potatoes, jam donuts and a Lions BBQ proved to be popular amongst the crowd of 500 plus, and the beer tent and lolly stall were also hits.

Professor Wallace's puppet show entertained children while people browsed the Jack McKenzie Pavillion, which was full of exhibit entries and Art Workshops.
