Rainbow Warriors rally for a cause
In an incredible demonstration of adventure and heart, local Rainbow residents Rob and Helen Heinrich, also known as Team "Rainbow Warriors," participated in the 2025 Riverina Outback Rally.

The pair raised an astounding $7500 for Country Hope, a family-centered support organization for children battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
The rally, which ran from March 10-14, 2025, took participants on a five-day journey through some of Australia’s most remote and rugged outback.
The event, which started in Barmera, South Australia, and concluded in Hillston, New South Wales, brought together 80 teams from across the nation, raising a remarkable $600,000 for Country Hope.
The funds will directly support families facing long journeys for medical treatment, ensuring that 100% of donations go directly to those in need.
Helen and Rob, who had always wanted to participate in the rally, decided to take part after learning that all proceeds would go toward supporting children and their families.
"We love giving back to those in need," Helen shared.
Their entry, a well-loved Ford panel van complete with a bed for comfort, allowed them to take on the rally in true outback style.
The rally route covered 2,500 kilometers of dust and gravel tracks, with a few stretches of bitumen, through locations like Harden, White Cliffs, Innamincka, and Packsaddle.
Each day brought its own challenges, including flat tires, fuel quality issues, and even a burnt-out fuse.
But despite the setbacks, the couple pressed on with determination and good humor, knowing the cause was bigger than any inconvenience.
One of the most powerful moments of their journey occurred during a stop at Packsaddle, where they met Grace, a six-year-old girl with a rare form of terminal cancer.
Grace's story left a deep impact on the Heinrichs.
"It’s not fair," Helen said, visibly moved by the injustice of children facing such devastating diagnoses.
Grace and her family had been struggling with a lack of support until Country Hope stepped in, offering the assistance they desperately needed.
"Meeting Grace made it all real," Helen said.
"It reminded us of why we were doing this—it's not just about the rally, it's about giving these kids a chance to live, a chance to receive the care they deserve."
The Heinrichs' trusty van made it through the rally with only minor issues, but the experience has left them with a desire to make improvements for next year.
“We’re already thinking about a bigger and better motor,” Rob laughed.
But their passion for the cause remains unwavering.
"We will be back next year, and we’ll be ready to raise even more."
The funds raised go directly to Country Hope to support children like Grace and countless others across Australia.
Despite spending around $4000 to participate in the rally, Helen emphasized that every cent raised was worth it.
"We are so grateful to everyone who donated and supported us," she said.
"The kids truly deserve so much more than cancer. Every dollar helps."
With their eyes set on next year’s rally, Helen encourages others to support Country Hope’s mission.
"If you’d like to donate, please get in touch. Every dollar counts, and together we can make a real difference."
