Renegades impress with clutch win

A number of tight contests were played out in round eight of the Horsham Cricket Association junior competition, including the Dunmunkle Renegades winning a thriller over the Bullants in the under 16s.

In other under 16 games, the Horsham Tigers and Homers came away with victories. 

At Noradjuha Recreation Reserve, the Renegades won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 8/105 from 22 overs. 

Hugh Weidemann led the side with 30 runs while Harry Noonan hit a quickfire 20 late in the innings. 

For the Bullants, Jack Combe had figures of 3/7 and Chase Wehlan finished with 2/17. 

In response, Jack Bardell (29) and Judd Oakley (14) led the Bullants to 5/95 in the 17th over.

Requiring nine runs in the last five overs, economical bowling kept the Bullants to three runs in four overs before the final dismissal in the last over secured a four-run victory for the Renegades as they bowled the home side out for 101. 

Luke Weidemann was key for the Renegades, producing key wickets and economical overs in the final stages to finish with 2/3 from three overs, while Lewis Gellatly (2/8) and Hugh Weidemann (2/16) also had two wickets each. 

At Dimboola Recreation Reserve, the Horsham Tigers elected to bat against Blackheath Dimboola, where they made 5/107 from 22 overs. 

Joel Plazzer starred with 50 retired not out while fellow opener Callum Jackson contributed 11 runs.

Edward Schorback led the Bulls with the ball with impressive figures of 2/3 from four overs and Roary Hadzig chipped in with 2/8. 

In response, Lenny Clark got the Bulls into a strong position with a knock of 50 retried not out, and despite a vital contribution of 24 from Charlie Taylor, the home side finished at 5/102, giving the Tigers a five-run win. 

Archie Knight was crucial in the Tigers’ bowling performance with figures of 2/2, while Callum Jackson had 1/5.

At Sunnyside Recreation Reserve, Homers elected to bat against the Saints, where they finished with 6/135 from 22 overs. 

Henry Walsgott top scored with 52 retired not out while Finn Arnel added 23 at the top of the order. 

Jackson Tuohey (2/15) and Jack Crute (2/21) led the way with the ball for the Saints. 

The Saints then proceeded to make 6/94 from 22 overs to give Homers a 41-run victory. 

Openers Hunter Schmidt (46 not out) and Jackson Tuohey (18) were standouts in the Saints’ innings, while Henry Walsgott continued his great game, taking a wicket and a catch and being involved in two runouts. 

In the under 14 competition, Blackheath Dimboola, the Renegades and the Bullants claimed victories. 

At Dimboola Recreation Reserve, the Saints elected to bowl, with the Bulls finishing their innings at 8/116. 

Edward Schorback smashed a 33-ball 56 not out and Roary Hadzig added 11 runs. 

For the Saints, Chaz Schmidt took 3/7 while Thonas Jackson had 1/11. 

In response, the Saints managed 5/82 from their 20 overs, led by 20 retired from Daniel Dossett. 

Harry Lindner led the Bulls with figures of 2/4, while Edward Schorback had 1/5.

At Dimboola Road Oval, the Tigers elected to bowl against the Renegades, who were bowled out for 118 in 19 overs.

Opener Judd Thomson hit 21 runs while Riley Trotter finished 40 not out off just 24 deliveries, helping the side recover from 6/38. 

Jack Steadman led the Tigers with 3/9, and Tex Askew provided an economical 1/5.

Despite impressive knocks from Maverick Adams (27 not out) and Arkie Mackley (25 not out), the Renegades restricted the Tigers to 7/98. 

Braxton Starick and Judd Thomson finished with figures of 2/4 and 2/5, respectively to help secure the Renegades’ victory.

At City Oval, West Wimmera elected to bowl against the Bullants, who finished at 3/113 from 20 overs. 

Judd Oakley (20), Zack Pickering (20) and Milton Ellis (19) impressed with retired not out innings, while Jack Dodds was the pick of the Warriors’ bowlers with figures of 1/5.

In response, Nate Clugston (7) and Tom Warner (6) top scored for West Wimmera as they were bowled out for 42. 

Judd Oakley (2/2), Thomas Combe (2/7) and Steele Oakley (2/12) all finished with two wickets each for the Bullants.
