Residents to shape road and pedestrain upgrades
Horsham Rural City Council is calling on residents to help shape a $2 million funding application for vital road, cycling and pedestrian safety projects across the municipality.

The council is applying for funding through the Transport Accident Commission’s Safer Local Roads and Street Program, which supports local safety initiatives.
Residents now have the opportunity to provide feedback on a shortlist of projects designed to address key community concerns.
Mayor Cr Ian Ross urged residents to get involved before the council finalised its application.
“The councillors are really keen to hear from the community on these projects before council makes a decision to proceed,” Cr Ross said.
“Please have a look at the projects that interest you and share your thoughts."
The proposed projects include roundabouts and a shared-use path in O’Callaghans Parade, speed treatments in Albert Street, Bowden Street and Railway Avenue, culvert protection in Noradjuha–Tooan East Road, a curve treatment in Three Bridges Road, a new pedestrian bridge over Natimuk Creek, and bicycle lanes in Bennett and Natimuk roads.
HRCC infrastructure director John Martin said community input had already influenced the project list.
“The list of projects reflects what we’ve already been hearing from the community so they are all genuine community needs,” Mr Martin said.
“Initial consultation for the O’Callaghans Parade works has already led to some refinements.
“The next phase will involve further consultation based on the detailed designs with stakeholders, nearby residents, businesses and the broader community.”
The feedback of the community will be used to fine-tune the designs and address any issues raised during consultation.
“Council will also implement an information and education program to explain the intent behind each project and how they will be used,” Mr Martin said.
“The program will cover key aspects such as driving through the two roundabouts on O’Callaghans Parade, safely sharing paths for the bike lane treatments on Bennett Road and Natimuk Road, and the rationale for each project.
“The outcome of the community consultation will be presented to council for further consideration and final approval of the works.”
