WARRACKNABEAL Bowling Clubs’ Twilight Bowls Competition introduced 17 new players to the three week challenge last Wednesday.
After a couple of practice ends for the new bowlers, the game was underway in pleasant weather conditions- except for the mosquitoes!
Everyone found the experience fun and challenging.
Great excitement was had when Caz Kozi had ‘the first toucher’ on the first end, securing a prize to start the night.
Her other ‘Jingle Bowls’ members, Mel Byron and Gaye Golder, certainly looked like winners in their matching outfits.
These girls are keen and show promise for the future.
The Silver Bullets’ skip, Kim Smith, played a steady two games with his team of Tracey Rawlins and Peter Anderson securing the ‘Best Performed’ trophy for winning both their games on the night.
Trevor Nitschke, skip for WBC, won Closest Bowl in the first game (not with the one on the wrong bias), and with his team of Kevin Barton and Robyn Goodwin, secured Runner Up for ‘Best Performed’ because they did not lose a game.
The ‘Red Devils’- Maree Barton, Brian Taylor and Sport Fisher, started well with a win over star bowler Rod Sinclairs’ team, the ‘Royal North Westers’, but then lost to the informal ‘Silver Bullets’- Sports’ wrong bias bowl was not to blame!
After winning their first game with a couple of high scoring final ends, ‘The Royals’ skip, Jade Taylor, with teammates Sonia Martinaiue and Dave Moore, lost to a fast finishing ‘RNW’.
The ‘Royal North Westers’ lead, Leonie Saunders, had the Closest Bowl on the last end of the night and helped her teammates Belinda Muller and Rodney Sinclair, with their second game.
Ryan, Tracey and Craig Abby (team ‘Abbeys’) settled after a first game loss to perform well in their second for a win, even if Tracey had a wrong bias bowl.
Everyone then escaped the mosquitoes and went inside to enjoy a sausage supper supplied by the club and ably cooked by Gary McLean and Graham Walder.
Bill Kerr manned the bar while Graeme Shalders, Isobel Davison and Edna Anderson kept a list of all the winners.
The competition, organised by Debra Steed, was won by Rodney SInclair.
