There’s a special kind of heartbreak reserved for anyone who’s ever watched their machinery slowly disappear into the mud.

The story of the bogged bobcat will be told around the smoko table for weeks and brought up at every barbecue until the end of time.
The story of the bogged bobcat will be told around the smoko table for weeks and brought up at every barbecue until the end of time.

Late on Monday arvo, that heartbreak belonged to a contractor who found himself in a sticky situation when his bobcat and tree mulcher got bogged deep in the scrub.

Enter the heroes of the hour: the crew from KLM.

With a call for help and an excavator in tow, they set off on what can only be described as a rescue mission fit for a movie.

After a 27-minute trek through the bush, with question of life choices and boot selection, they finally found the stricken machine.

There it sat, half-submerged and sinking fast, like Artax inThe NeverEnding Story.

All that was missing was some dramatic music and a tearful farewell.

But unlike the movie, this story had a happy ending.

With a few well-placed chains, a lot of teamwork, and possibly some colourful language, the excavator managed to haul the bogged bobcat back to solid ground.
