The hunt is on for Fred the Macaw
There’s been a splash of unexpected colour in Horsham this week, and locals have been keeping their eyes to the sky in search of Fred, a two-and-a-half-year-old blue-and-yellow macaw who escaped from his Horsham, Karingal Crescent cage on Saturday afternoon, August 16.

Fred is no ordinary escape artist. Clever as they come, he managed to unscrew the bolts on his cage and squeeze through a small opening.
At first, he perched himself in a tree out the front of his neighbour’s house, but after being spooked, he took flight.
Macaws can only fly short distances at a time due to their weight, and Fred has been spotted around town since, including on the roof of the Bull & Mouth Hotel, the Commercial Hotel, and along Gillespie Street.
Despite looking the part of a wild bird, Fred isn’t able to find food himself as he’s been hand-raised since birth.
His owner, Phil, is worried for his safety and has urged anyone who spots Fred not to chase him, but to call immediately.
If you see Fred, please contact Phil on 0488 943 363 straight away.
With a bit of luck and some sharp eyes from the Horsham community, this colourful character will soon be back where he belongs.
