Tower Park purchase committee formed

LAST month, on November 18, the first meeting of the Tower Park group took place where it was resolved to move forward with the purchase of the site and formally establish the group overseeing the transaction.

The Tower Park site has been a popular central point for various town activities and it is hoped to bring it under formal community management.
The Tower Park site has been a popular central point for various town activities and it is hoped to bring it under formal community management.

A committee has been formed with the following people taking office bearer positions:

President – La Vergne Lehmann

Secretary – Neil Davenport

Treasurer – Mayhla Howels

Fundraising – Jo Donnelly

Communications – John Nichols

The role of the group will be to manage the Tower Park space with a view to the potential purchase of the land, management and servicing of the park.

This includes raising funds for the purchase and overall management of the park and to work with the community to ensure Tower Park Dimboola is a creative space for residents and visitors alike.

“With the group now formally incorporated and with an ABN, we can now start planning fundraising activities ... for the purchase of the park,” Ms Lehmann said.

2026 will kick off the planning and ultimately the purchase of the park to bring it into formal community management for the first time.

Since the park was developed out of the Pick your Project funding in 2019 the park has become a well-loved feature of the Dimboola main street landscape.

Visitors walk through it and many stop to have lunch there.

It is also a focal point for local events such as the regular Tower Park Market, and this year it hosted community events and celebrations for Halloween and Christmas.

“This is a site for everyone in Dimboola and with so much work being put into it by the current owner, Graeme Schneider and the Dimboola Arts Inc, it is a wonderful opportunity to continue that legacy for the town,” Ms Lehmann said.
